The Commission on Nightlife will identify and study common issues and trends relating to the after-hours economy and advise the Mayor, Council and Office as appropriate, on ways to improve laws and policies that impact the after-hours economy.  The Commission will work with the Director of Nightlife in executive programs, policies and making recommendations to the Mayor.

The Office and Commission of Nightlife were established pursuant to District of Columbia bill B22-0508.

Commission appointments:

Mayor Bowser will appoint the following seven (7) public members to the Commission.    Candidates must meet qualifications for these seats exactly:

  • One member who is a business owner holding on-premises retailers license pursuant to DC Code 25-113 (https://code.dccouncil.us/dc/council/code/sections/25-113.html)
  • One member who serves the board of directors a Business Improvement District
  • One member who is a dean or director or equivalent from a university with 50% students residing in on-campus housing
  • One member from an organization that advocates for preventing sexual harassment and assault
  • One member who is a District of Columbia based musician or music industry producer
  • One member who is a District of Columbia based artistic director in the performing arts
  • One member how is a District of Columbia based visual artist
